Further our existing Melbourne Airport demo GRIFFIN station, I’m pleased to report two additional demo stations are now online regionally. The first was Twizel NZ South Island, targeting mainly LEO SVs L2 transmissions. In what otherwise would be a very ambient quiet RFI area, fortunately we didn’t have to wait long, as plenty of LEO feedstock L2 RFI data came through for our orbit determination SDA algorithms within the first 24 hours.

The second install was at Newcastle Ports maritime harbour. Big shout-out to PWCS Kooragang Island for hosting this! This location was chosen to extend regional GRIST network, while also providing valuable insight into both shipping terminal and urban waterfront environs across the river.

This location didn’t disappoint either!

Within hours of commissioning, we actively tracked a strong terrestrial personal privacy device (PPD) vehicle moving along the coastal Pacific Highway. Interestingly, this PPD was jamming on both L1 & L2 simultaneously. We haven’t seen this before, so, not your standard “garden variety” GNSS PPD vehicle based jamming device!

Also, Newcastle continues to receive it’s share of LEO L2 transmissions. These two new Sensor stations will contribute to our initial regional (SE Aus & NZ) demonstration Space Domain Awareness network, for GNSS Regional Interference Surveillance & Tracking (GRIST) project.

This project is designed to target future malicious LEO SV (deterrent) transmissions originating directly from space, attempting to disrupt terrestrial GNSS users.
